17 WEEK WAIT FOR BREAST SCAN
A forty-year-old woman discovered a lump in her breast and went straight to her GP. According to national guidelines, a specialist should see her within 10 days. She was told that before she can see the specialist she needs a mammogram.

She was referred to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and discovered there was a waiting list of 17 weeks.

She has so far waited 10 weeks living with the fear that she may have breast cancer. She still has another 7 weeks to go.

Early detection is essential for the best chance of treatment if cancer is found.
